Understand Movember and No-Shave November

Growing facial hair for good? Sign us up. By now, most guys have already heard of or been part of events like No-Shave November and Movember. But how did these movements start, and what are the charitable efforts behind the scenes? Read on to learn more.

What is movember?

Movember began in Australia back in 2003, when guys were challenged to grow moustaches for a whole month to raise money and awareness for men’s health through donations from friends, family, and coworkers.

By focusing on men’s mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer, the goal of the Movember organization is to raise awareness and reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% before 2030. Since 2003, Movember has spread across the globe, raising millions each year. Get to know the Movember rulebook and find the best mustache style for you.

What is no-shave November?

Founded in 2009, No-Shave November challenges participants to stop shaving for a month. Like Movember, this movement focuses on fundraising for cancer research, education, and prevention and is partnered with non-profit organizations like Prevent Cancer Foundation®, Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC), and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Making a difference after no-shave November

This month isn’t all about facial hair. Whether you are a part of Movember or No-Shave November, the goal is to raise awareness and money for causes that support men’s physical and mental health. Here’s how you can keep the spirit alive all year round.

Check yourself

Testicular cancer is one of the illnesses both Movember and No-Shave November raise awareness for, so make sure you’re checking yourself for any early signs.

If you’re a fan of manscaping, check for any lumps while you’re down there. Otherwise, get into the habit of checking yourself in the shower at least once a week.

Don’t be afraid of the Doctor

Regular doctor appointments should be scheduled, no matter your age. Whether there’s a lump you want to get checked out, or you’re just not feeling well, your doctor is there to help.

Check in with your friends

Start the conversation telling your friends about the No-Shave November cause, and talk to them about how they’re doing—like, really doing. Speaking up and having someone listen to how you’re feeling can be a solid source of support.

Make time for self-care
